Overuse Injuries in Golf: Understanding Golfer's Elbow
Written by: Shannon Mantrop, BKIN, MKIN, CEP, CPGA Teaching Professional

In a recent study by Gosher et al., 2003 it was reported that the elbow was the most prevalent area for overuse injuries in amateur golfers followed by the back and shoulder.

The hand and the wrist units are the last links in the kinetic chain and ultimately are responsible for transferring the speed and kinetic energy (which has been generated from other body segments) into the club. The demand placed on the small bones and soft tissues of the hand and wrist during this process and from contacting a semi-yielding surface (grass, turf, dirt) at high speeds makes them very susceptible to injury (Geisler, 2001)

The Chip and Run Shot
by Terry Carter

The chip and run shot is the preferred method when close to the green. As a rule we want to hit a low running shot rather then a high lobbing shot if possible as the low shot is much easier to control. If you have a sand trap, water hazard or an obstacle in front of you, then you would pitch the ball up into the air vs this chip and run shot.

With a 7, 8, or 9 iron, simply take your narrow open stance, choke down on the handle, lean on your front foot, create a small letter "y" with the club and your arms.. Now swing back and through in a pendulum motion. This is a controlled shot that will defiantly help you get the ball close to the hole.

Note: This shot is most effective off of a good lie.. If you have a bad lie, you are better off using a more lofted club such as a PW or SW

ALSO: Send this to anyone you think could benefit and call us if you need help.

Good luck and happy golfing!
